Shawarma for Thought !

Troubled…

September 16, 2008 · 3 Comments

India seems to be going through a bad phase yet again. Serial blasts in Delhi, communal problems in Karnataka, and some others. I am now beginning to believe that religion is truly the root cause of all problems. I think the world would be much better off without it ! All it does is create divisions. For instance, it is now becoming difficult for me to maintain an unbiased view towards Islam and Muslims. I have a couple of friends who are devout Muslims, and I see an invisible wall come up between us, whenever the talk veers towards religion.

Though I am aware that the problems are being caused by a select few, and that the rest of the people are purely innocent, how can I possibly get over the fact that most militants today happen to be Muslims ?! I wonder what it is about Islam, that incites such intense violent feelings among its believers…

Probably Muslims are most suppressed nations in the world today?

Or it is just again media gimmick to highlight anything related to violence with Muslims only…?

I beg to differ, Tauqeer. I do not think that they are the most suppressed nations. I think, these militants are simply latching onto that belief, and trying to spread the notion that ‘We are the victimised lot’ among normal Muslims, as an excuse to carry out their hate-crimes. I wish the rest of the Muslims wouldn’t fall for it, so that these jihadis would realise that they can no longer maintain the facade of fighting for a ‘just’ cause !

If anything, the Muslim community today is being targetted simply because an overwhelming majority of crimes carried out in the name of religion, are being done by people from their religion. This is not to say that all Muslims are terrorists, but yes, most terrorists are Muslims…sadly. Can you possibly deny that ?

i feel it might be a good idea for educated members of the community to come out and actually provide unbiased interpretations of what the religion, and the religious book really convey.

for instance, if a certain religion preaches that only a certain path is right, and all others false, and all those who follow anything else, infidels who deserve death, then by practising that religion, i am only doing my duty as the religion deems me to.

i do not know if i am making sense.
